A voluntary body representing the interests of the local community, founded in 2003.
We preserve and maintain the Woodhead and Windyhills geological deposits and woodlands (it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest) and we promote access and interpretation amongst the local community and the wider population. We strive to protect and conserve the woodland’s special fauna and flora.
Founded in 2003, the Trust preserves 100 acres of woodland to explore and respect. The woodlands contain a Site of Special Scientific Interest, designated because of the underlying quartzite gravels from an ancient river-bed.
We hold a wide range of resources documenting plants and wildlife at Windyhills. You can view our records of spiders, mammals, birds, moths, hoverflies and other insects, and trees, mosses, grasses and fungi.
The Trust was named Scottish Community Group of the Year in 2006.
Our work
Our goal is to promote opportunities to engage with and experience the natural setting. The area is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest due to the underlying quartzite gravels from an ancient river-bed. Learn more about our work by getting in touch today.
We provide a range of educational and outreach activities related to conservation, ecology and the wildlife sanctuary. Contact us to learn more about our commitment to this cause.
