Photographed on 14th May 2005 at Woodhead wood, this four to five week old tawny owlet was spotted dosing in the sunshine.

The Greater spotted Woodpecker.

This unfortunate bird was found dead at Woodhead near a window which it had presumably crashed into.

Here you can see the strong tail feathers which it uses for balance and to support itself when feeding on tree trunks.

Woodpeckers have two toes pointing forward and two back.

Most other birds have three forward and one back.
