The first time this moth has been recorded in VC93. North Aberdeenshire. FW 16.19 mm. An immigrant moth, comes to light and sugar. Larva has been found on Yellow Rattle.

Flies May - June. Very small central spot, sometimes absent. Whitish outermost cross-line and subtle patterns of grey, warm, tawny brown or reddish brown. Resident all year. Overwinters as a pupa on the ground or in loose earth.

Resembles a twig. Overwinters as an adult. Feeds after dark on ivy flowers and overripe blackberries. Habitat - moorland and rough pasture, boggy heath and marshes. Larva feeds on heathers, the flowerheads of rush and sedges.

Mystery Grubs or caterpillar larva seen fighting in the bog area of Windyhills. The smaller one won the fight and the large one scuttled off down its burrow. Can you help identify them?

This moth was recorded for the first time this year, in this part of Aberdeenshire.

It lives on clover and the trefoil plant family.
